The Origins of the Name Jeep

 

There are several versions about the origin of the name of "Jeep". The most accepted is from the cartoon of the 1930's, Popeye the Sailor, which featured a character named Eugene the Jeep, one yellow pet like a dog with supernatural powers,  and American soldiers attributed these powers to the Jeep. During World War II, this version is accompanied by a less imaginative, which attributes the name to the initials GP, General Purpose, under which the U.S. Army organized the competition to provide themselves with a small four-wheeled utility vehicle. The reason why these versions are confused and debate is ultimately the way it is written: It is said that the Jeep name pronunciation is reduced to the acronym G. P, namely Pi Yi. However, as the character of Popeye the Sailor Jeep used the name as you type the name of the brand, and also this nice character communicated only through the repetition of "jeep jeep", finally I usually attribute the origin of name.

The late General George C. Marshall defined the Jeep as "the greatest contribution of the United States of America to modern military operations." In fact, the history of the Second World War is also the story of the early years of Jeep, since after 1941 participated in every campaign as a vehicle machine gun scout car, ambulance, truck, limousine for the front, transport ammunition, machine for laying wires and taxi.

Currently the Jeep is used in various parts of America and the world as a fun vehicle in which different clubs compete for different obstacles and different routes of rivers, deserts, rocks, etc.., And this sport one of the most extreme vehicles and well known in the United States.
