There are several versions about the origin of the name of "Jeep". The most accepted is from the cartoon of the 1930's, Popeye the Sailor, which featured a character named Eugene the Jeep, one yellow pet like a dog with supernatural powers,  and American soldiers attributed these powers to the Jeep. During World War II, this version is accompanied by a less imaginative, which attributes the name to the initials GP, General Purpose, under which the U.S. Army organized the competition to provide themselves with a small four-wheeled utility vehicle. The reason why these versions are confused and debate is ultimately the way it is written: It is said that the Jeep name pronunciation is reduced to the acronym G. P, namely Pi Yi. WRANGLER (TJ) STORY

Considered the ultimate escape vehicle. The 1997 model of the Jeep Wrangler (TJ) offered preferred outstanding on-road handling and legendary off-road capability. The new 1997 Jeep Wrangler won the prestigious "4x4 of the Year".

The new Wrangler had a retro look, very similar to the CJ-7, but was very different from the mechanical point of view. Almost 80 percent of the vehicle parts were newly designed. Starting with basic Wrangler platform, the Jeep engineers overhauled the most complete since evolved into the MB Quad.

WRANGLER (TJ)

The biggest change in the engineering of TJ was the new Quadra-Coil suspension, replacing the standard springs and offered a ride on the road much better. The road capabilities were enhanced with higher ground clearance and angles of approach and departure more aggressive. The TJ also had a new interior that included airbags for driver and passenger.

The TJ retained several classic Jeep features such as round headlights (not square) folding windshield (first seen in 1940) and removable doors, plus the option of a soft top or removable hard top. A factory-fitted sport bar was also standard. The engine is the same AMC TJ 4.0L 6-cylinder used in the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee.

WRANGLER (TJ)

TJ Wrangler line received rave reviews since its debut and has proven to be an extremely adaptable vehicle, with a growing variety of aftermarket performance parts available.

In 2003, Jeep introduced the Wrangler brand most capable of all time: Rubicon. The Wrangler Unlimited debuted in 2004 with a longer wheelbase, 13 inches more cargo room and more comfortable road handling.

JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE (ZJ) STORY

Jeep  Grand Cherokee (ZJ) celebrates its appearance by crashing through the window of the congress center of American International Auto Show in Detroit during its introduction in Jan. 7, 1992. The Grand Cherokee Wagoneer replaced as a midsize luxury SUV - a design class many manufacturers rush to imitate.

The first SUV equipped with side airbag driver, new standards for the handling, maneuverability and comfort in  SUV. The Grand Cherokee was immediately popular and has won dozens of awards, including Motor Trend Truck of the Year, four-wheel review of the year and 4Wheel &  Off-Road magazine (2003).

New for '93, the 105, 9-inch wheelbase Grand Cherokee took the Cherokee levels of refinement to a new level. A new suspension Quadra-Coil feature coil / multilink configuration, a 5.2L V8 engine is optional, and a Dana 44 rear axle was available for some models.

ZJS originated in three trim options: Laredo, Base and Limited. Specialty models for Orvis (1995-1997), with a limited color scheme of hunter green with gold stripes measure. Its interior sported two-tone green, champagne  seats complimented with red accents and Orvis badging.

HISTORY of GRAND WAGONEER

The Jeep  Grand Wagoneer ZJ was a rare version of the Grand Cherokee, which was only offered in 1993. HISTORY OF JEEP COMANCHE

The Jeep Comanche  (also called MJ) was a pick-up version of the XJ Cherokee.

Originally the Comanche truck undercarriage boasted identical to the XJ, although you could get a Renault diesel engine 2.1L I-4 for the '86 MJ model.

The Comanche was a vehicle built body, which makes it unique among pickups.

The last Comanche marked the end of the Jeep truck line that began in 1947.

HISTORY OF JEEP WRANGLER (YJ)

HISTORY OF JEEP  WAGONEER

The family oriented Wagoneer was a variation on the Cherokee (XJ). It was sold in two versions: the Wagoneer and Wagoneer Limited. Both Wagoneers were distinguished from the Cherokee by their four projectors, with vinyl timber  trim special for Limited. The base model has a better level finish than the XJ Cherokee models, but less than the high-end Limited.

It was available with the "part-time" Command-Trac  or "full-time" Selec-Trac  4WD. Command-Trac featured quarter-on-the-fly capability allows the driver to shift into or out of 4WD while the vehicle is in motion. The sophisticated full-time Selec-Trac is engaged at all times and has a special viscious coupling that eliminating the blinding, or "crow hopping," which occurs when most 4WDs are operated on dry pavement.

HISTORY OF LAREDO CJ5

The Laredo package was offered in the 1980-1986 CJ line.

The typical package includes a grill, fenders, hood emblem, wheels, and chrome accents.

Since then, the name of Laredo has worked in several Jeep models   until this day, and came to represent a set of upper middle trim with stylish accents.

J-10 TRUCK 1980S HISTORY

In 1971, Jeep trucks lost the name and  appeared Gladiator J-10 models (119 inches) or J-20 (131 inches). Improvements included front disc brakes, a new front axle, six-stud wheels and heavier frame cross members.

The truck line J-10 J-Series versions included Honcho, Golden Eagle and 10-4.

J-20 was the largest van GVW (gross vehicle weight), with capacities of more than half a ton to a ton and even with dual rear wheel configuration.

CJ-10 HISTORY

JEEP CJ-5 UNIVERSAL

In 1976, AMC introduced the CJ-7, the seventh generation of the original vehicle and the first major change in Jeep design in 20 years.

CJ-7 had a wheelbase slightly longer than the CJ-5 to make room for the automatic transmission. CJ-7 showed the door openings square unlike CJ-5 which were rounded. A quick way to tell them apart.

For the first time, the CJ-7 offered an optional molded plastic roof and steel doors.

American Motors Corporation acquired Kaiser Jeep Corporation in early 1970. The Jeep Wagoneer continued to refine and improve many advances that emerged during the decade. It presented a new AMC 360 cubic inch V8 and later a 401-cubic-inch V8. The innovative Quadra-Trac 4X4 revolutionized the industry with total capacity (no manual changes).

The Wagoneer Limited (1978-79) was the spiritual successor of the Super Wagoneer and then renamed it Grand Wagoneer. Limited was the most luxurious 4x4 that occurred at that time.

Road & Track magazine called it, "The champagne vehicles 4WD".

JEEP COMMANDER (XK) HISTORY

The 2006 Jeep Commander was the first seven-passenger Trail Rated 4x4.

Based on the platform of the Grand Cherokee (WK) '05, rectangular Commander was a little longer than the WK (two inches), but a stepped roof three inches taller and stadium-style layout gave room for additional seating in the rear. Rectangular  Commander design with square upright windshield and side immediately distinguishes him from his cousin.

The basic characteristics and  powertrain energy were the same as the Grand Cherokee. Like most 4x4 Jeep models, the commander had the Jeep Trail Rated emblem. To get the Trail Rated, a vehicle must meet the standard performances of traction, ground clearance, maneuverability and the ability to walk.

The award-winning Grand Cherokee was renovated in 2013 with many new styling cues, with a 3.0L engine + Ecodiesel and eight-speed automatic transmission.

  

JEEP LIBERTY (KK) HISTORY :

In 2008, the all-new Jeep Liberty (KK), with its robust design, the classic Jeep, replaced, smoother more than  Liberty (KJ).

The Jeep engineers sought to improve the Liberty vehicle on-road refinement and strengthening its off-road capabilities. As a result, we have developed all-new  independent five-link front suspension systems, and together with a completely new Selec-Trac II 4x4 system, giving Liberty  refined on-road handling without compromising off-road attributes.

Inside, comfortable seats, the larger load capacity and passenger space were improved. The all-new Jeep Liberty offered a Sky sunroof, that delivers a true outdoor experience.

In 2011, the Jeep brand celebrates its 70th anniversary with a special edition of the Jeep Liberty. This vehicle is available with unique exterior paint colors (Bronze Star Pearl) 70th Anniversary badging, and more.

The Liberty was retired in 2012 and replaced in the lineup by the 2014 Jeep Cherokee.

  

JEEP CHEROKEE (KL) HISTORY :

The all-new Jeep Cherokee 2014 replaces Liberty - that promises to redefine the midsize segment. The Jeep brand dug back and tapped into the Cherokee name for the launch of this vehicle with a new vision. The progressive Cherokee redefines the midsize segment with Best-in-Class 4x4 + capacity, excellent efficiency, a fresh, uncommon versatility  and refined manners for everyday use.

The Jeep Cherokee introduced in 2014 four models: Latitude, Limited, Sport and Trail Rated Trailhawk. The robust Trailhawk is styled, equipped and designed to have larger capacity in this segment to a new height. Cherokee seats Trailhawk Best-in-Class 4x4 + thanks to an off-road suspension lifted with skid plates, tow hooks, traction control Selec-Terrain, Lock Active Drive with rear locker, speed control Selec Crawl 56:1 crawl ratio + angles and aggressive approach, departure and ventral.

Modern, progressive and aerodynamic, helped move the Jeep brand in the new era with global appeal defined by its efficient and signature Jeep brand DNA. Establishing a benchmark for the industry, the Cherokee was the 1st mid-size SUV to offer standard  nine-speed automatic on all models, the new Pentastar 2.3L and 3.2L V6 Tigershark MultiAir 2 motors dramatically improved its efficiency and refinement.

DJ JEEP DISPATCHER HISTORY

The Jeep Dispatcher (DJ) was a two-wheel drive version of the popular CJ.

The vehicle looked like CJ but was different in many ways, it was completely closed, was only rear wheel drive, including sliding doors and rear door swing.

  

HURST COMMANDO EDITION HISTORY

One of the most extraordinary vehicle is Jeep Commando "Hurst Special" '71, a joint promotion of AMC / Hurst. Hurst lever had a double, a bonnet ABS, 8,000 rpm tachometer and blue and red stripes on the outside. Less than 100 were made, which makes it a favorite among collectors.

J-10 TRUCK STORY

In 1971, Jeep trucks appeared Gladiator J-10 models (119 inches) or J-20 (131 inches). Some improvements, included new front disc brakes, a new front axle, six-stud wheels and heavier frame cross members.

All trucks shared the same body design that Jeep Wagoneer and Cherokee, from the cab forward, and offered with flat sided body or side steps.

The truck line J-10 J-Series versions included Honcho, Golden Eagle and 10-4.

In 1976, the popular model appeared Honcho $ 699 more than the J-10 short platform with standard custom level. It was the equivalent truck wide track Cherokee Chief and included two versions: Sportside to step to the side of the platform and Townside.

The Honcho had a gold stripe along the sides of the platform, mudguards and rear door, wide wheels 8x15 "with lightning and off-road tires, interior denim Levi's and sports steering wheel. Package Laredo was available along with the Honcho in 1980.

The package Golden Eagle 1977, manufactured from 1977 to 1983, including a grille guard, fog handsets, roll bar on the platform, wheels eight-inch seat Levi's, decorative stripes and decal eagle on the hood, all for a fee from $ 749.

The 10-4  versions produced from 1974 to 1983. The 1978 package consisted mostly of color options and details, the 10-4 package also offered a CB radio factory installed option.
