Jeep in Argentina

Jeep in Argentina
The first Jeep's were imported by the Argentine army after the Second World War and had no major civil use (except in a few movies and a very few units).

With the installation of Kaiser in Argentina, they decided in 1956 to industrialize the Jeep in Argentina and manufacture under license by Kaiser Industries Argentina, along with a multitude of derivatives such "Estanciera IKA" (Willys Overland Station Wagon), and some local developments as the Baqueano (pickup version), utility (factory bodywork van version) and the Jeep Freighter (Skeletal chassis or semi-bodied) which produced 589 units.

Then come the Jeep Gladiator pickup manufactured locally until the mid 70's, when Renault acquired stake completely Kaiser Industries Argentina and focuses on its brand production plant of Santa Isabel, Cordoba Province. Similarly, the Argentine army used the IKA and kept the old Willys imported in the late 40's and even the 50's and it is common in some encounters certain concentrations or Willys of various years.

After several years without major participation in 1996 built a new factory in Cordoba, more precisely in the vicinity of the capital city of the Mediterranean province, in Ferreyra, which produce the Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee until late 2000, when decided to close the plant because of the merger that took place long before (1998) between the Chrysler and Daimler-Benz. So focused industrial activity in the Mercedes-Benz plant in Gonzalez Catan and the following year it was decided to import from Austria Jeep range (except the Wrangler from the United States of America).
